Seedling Update

Early batch isn't looking bad. I was a bit "omg, I started the kale way too early!" But honestly, I think they should be fine. They will be going outdoors ain a few weeks along with the alliums, so that should make room for my warmer weather starts. I did also just start the rest of my brassicas, so I'll see how they do.

Seedlings

Onions, leeks, shallots, potato onions, and three varieties of kale. It looks like my celery seeds are finally starting to sprout today, but honestly, I might try winter sowing some lovage and leave celery out of the garden in future years. I mean, I'll use up the seed I have, but honestly not worth the headache when I can just replace it with lovage stalks, which are perennial and I can get as plants locally if starting from seed doesn't work out.

Snapdragons

And friends... Yes, I'm aware I have zero control in front of a seed display. I'm just considering it a win that there aren't more varieties of fruit and vegetables in this purchase, just flowers. All very useful flowers though (all are edible, though I'd rather just use the snapdragons as cut flowers).

Seed Purchase

Yes, I bought just a couple more seeds. I might also pick up some snap dragons next time I'm in the store, but otherwise I'm going to try to put myself on a seed ban. However, I did really want to get some blue shackamaxon beans, as they are a historic variety of bean cultivated...See more

Seed Starting has Begun

I did a mix of methods. Some winter sowing (two types of bread poppy, mache, and milkweed). Tried a seed snail (yellow onions). And then the more traditional cells (kale - 3 kinds, red onions, shallots, leeks, and celery). I've got more to do, but not a bad start I think. Hopefully, I finally get a decent year for onions, leeks, and celery, but I swear they enjoy thwarting my efforts.

More Seeds

Here is some of the seed haul from the in person seed swap. Some I had already tucked away. Not a big haul this year, but I did get some unusual and fun stuff. I also ended up as a bit of an impromptu educator, answering questions, giving recommendations and the like. The group...See more

Seed Library Haul

I was going out today anyway, so figured I'd stop by the library to both donate seeds and pick up a few. I donated some tomato seeds (beefsteak), some bean seeds (blue lake pole), dwarf French marigolds, anise hyssop and some spineless okra. As you can see, I brought some of my...See more
