The Minds Community Open Source Initiative (MCOSI) held its monthly meeting on February 16th. This meeting was attended by Luculent, Medworthy, Realmindschan (three founding members of the MCOSI) and i3utm, as well as Minds staff member, JakePassi and Nick.

This wasn't a very long meeting but we did receive some new information that was provided by the staff. The following is a summary of what was discussed:

Staff administrators tested 6 areas of the site within the last month and produced 34 bug reports, all of which were migrated into GitLab. The development team has already started debugging some of them. Minds is beginning to work on implementing an on-boarding facility, which will introduce a new "welcome wizard" for recently registered community members.

Minds has just introduced a new service called Canary. This feature allows community members to test out experimental functionality and provides an early peak in at new features.

Canary is part of several new testing and development tools in which the wider community will be able to further participate in the ongoing development of the Minds platform. Further information about Canary and other features will be published in upcoming blogs and posts, these will be included to the MCOSI group.

To help to identity site administrators and moderators, the staff are planning to roll out a new “admin” badge (and will be used in a similar manner to the current “verified” badge). This badge will differentiate Minds staff members from other members of the community.

At the time of the meeting, Bill Ottman (Minds founder and chief executive officer) was preparing for an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast.

This interview was broadcast Tuesday 19th, in which Bill and Joe had a very interesting, informative conversation and discussed about various subjects which included Minds.com, social media and open source software.

The staff at Minds are always improving and implementing more features to the platform. With the recent release of the Gathering and live chat features, as well as the upcoming additions, the next couple months will be exciting.

Minds Community Open Source Initiative continues to strife for further collaboration between the wider community and the staff. The MCOSI welcomes further feedback from the community of this open source social media platform.
