Created this account to spread some reason- and science-based info on the oft-taboo topic of circumcision. Parents, please make an informed choice; please take the time to look thoroughly into making the right choice.
Research shows numerous harms, severe risks (risks include death; amputation of penis), and the supposed benefits are questionable. NO major national medical body in the world recommends routine infant circumcision. Most are performed without anesthetic, so the babies feel everything, and multiple studies suggest long-lasting and permanent negative psychological (and physical) effects. Circumcision removes the most sensitive parts of the penis; circumcised men are nearly 5 times more likely to be on Erectile Dysfunction medication, among other problems. Studies also show female partners of intact men report higher rates of satisfaction with their sex lives.
Infants cannot consent; let them make the choice for themselves when they reach adulthood.

(Regarding religion: I think religions in modern times can and should adapt to conform with human rights principles by replacing the procedure with a symbolic ritual, then let the child make a consenting voluntary decision when they reach adulthood. The Brit Shalom is a peaceful alternative ceremony that many Jewish people are increasingly opting for.)
I was circumcised for 'religious traditional reasons'; my natural foreskin was violently robbed from me, along with thousands of sensitive nerve endings.
I wish I could know what sex was supposed to feel like; I'll die never being able to know.
