Ken Larson was awarded the Bronze Star during two military tours in Vietnam. His career subsequently spanned 36 years with major aerospace and defense companies and small business consulting. Ken received the SCORE National Achievement Award in 2010 and the MicroMentor Award for Outstanding Service In Mentorship in 2021. Micro Mentor and SCORE are non-profit organization offering free assistance to small business in business planning, operations, marketing and other aspects of starting and successfully operating a small enterprise. Ken is the author of two books, "Odyssey Of Armaments" and "Small Business Federal Government Contracting". We have started this channel showcase both the work of Beehive Yourself but also some of our interest, particularly on topic relating to beekeeping history.
We have two apiaries: one on the Berkshire Downs and the other in the market town of Wantage, in southern Oxfordshire, England.
The Wantage apiary is situated in a suburban garden, a few streets away from Wantage Hospital and the garden centre. Here, bees benefit from the flora of the gardens and public spaces, as well as the surrounding arable fields.
The Downland apiary is situated on piece of land which is semi-woodland. Here, bees benefit from the agricultural crops, with oil-seed-rape and field bean being the most common. Beside crops, there are plenty of other flowers for the bees to forage, particulary trees, thistles, brambles and ivy.
