I didn't do this last year, and to be honest, my garden suffered last year. I dealt with bugs and disease, and my bounty was worse than my first year doing this. I am going to be better this year. I moved away from my original garden area and decided to go strictly raised garden beds/grow bags.
First step was to move my compost over into the raised beds and I also had to buy dirt. I didn't want to put the non-draining clay into the raised best. This was not a cheap endeavor and in the past Minds token helped offset the cost, that token isn't worth squat anymore. I saved for this, knowing starting over would mean a significant upfront cost.
I'm also including a picture of my chicken and duck enclosures. The ducks don't serve a purpose other than as pets for my middle daughter. Their pool got a hole in it, so we replaced it, so ignore that pool just laying there. It's gone now. The chickens provide eggs for us. We lost one this year, but we still have 9 laying hens, and they look good. Dealt with some frost bite this year, and the rooster got it the worst. In spite of that, they are in good spirits. Took the picture with my drone, and most of them ran inside. The three dumb ones just hung out lol.
Starting top left and moving across the top: Onions, Tomatoes, Squash/zucchini, cucumbers and hot peppers. Bottom left and across: Potato grow bags, blueberries, strawberries in the next two beds, the snap peas and bell peppers. We planted a few French daisies to deter pests that should sprout up soon. The bags of dirt are for the potato grow bags. I am trying the method where I add dirt as the green parts grow up. I am hoping to increase yield this way as potato yields in the clay were not great.
Left side ducks, right side chickens. The bottom chicken coops were the old ones and are used when separation is required, or introducing new birds to the flock safely.
More to come as the garden progresses. This time next year I should have two pigs and a quail enclosure for alternate meat source.
