So the art mission of this week in Rishikesh is to paint at the “Beatles Ashram”! This is a super trippy looking Meditation Center, where Maharishi Mahesh Yogi had the Beatles over in the late 60’s, and where they wrote the white album at. The place was eventually abandoned, so the jungle grew over it and now it’s a very cool ruin, that also serves as a wild tiger reserve. So it’s a street artist and classic rock buff’s dream come true! When I caught pics of dope pieces painted here by friends @milestoland (on Instagram) and @oliviajaneart(on Instagram) , I made sure to schedule this long awaited trip to India! I was stoked that the people who now caretake for this place have allowed me (with a bit of convincing) to paint one of the best spots on this land! It’s one of a handful of egg shaped meditation domes, on the rooftop of a crazy looking building. Getting to the top of it is tricky with a sketchy bamboo ladder, and I was only able to smuggle a few good spray cans, so I got to mainly use latex paint. But I am so excited to crush one of my trippy creatures on this unique surface! @themetanoist (on Instagram) also scored a great decaying wall on another tarnished building, so keep an eye on her too!
