So, in my tape archive there are quite a few gaps, some releases where either or both the multitrack and the mixed master are missing or so mislabelled that it's hard to tell. Considering it is over thirty years of material, it sure could be worse, but the missing stuff is still majorly unfortunate. It rules out remixing in those cases where the multi-track is missing, obviously, and for the rest it makes the prospect of re-issue on vinyl very challenging. Among the tapes that appear to have disappeared leaving no trace whatsoever, multi-track or two-track, are the songs on the 1995 7" and CD single "Alternative Is Here to Stay", that is the A side / title track, "New Girlfriend" and "You Today." But I just realized today that "You Today" was actually recorded on ADAT, probably because it was a quick add-on job. And I do have that ADAT tape. So, theoretically, if it plays, that song at least is salvageable, i.,e., no longer "lost." It ain't much but I'll take it. #music #vinyl #records #archives #minds
