A baby Purple Swamphen (Porphyrio porphyrio). I followed this family's progress over several months. When the chicks were very young they were impossible to photograph because their downy feathers have the magic ability to absorb photons. But as they get older they 'grey-up' a bit and as you can see in this photo, the purple colouration begins to emerge. #birds #Australia
