Nationalism is a collectivist ideology whereby people take pride for things they did not do and punish people as a group, not based on individual harms committed. The opposite of nationalism is the ethical notion of individualism: the idea of respecting individual effort and talent and assignment of harms based on individual actors, not by groups. If you accept nationalism, you accept the ideology that permits gun control (collective restriction), the end of freedom of speech (collective censorship), and mass murder through war (collective violence against innocent people). If you accept individualism, you accept individual freedom (individual rights), individual responsibility (no collective punishment), and individual reward (no redistribution of wealth and cronyism). Love liberty. Love individualism.
