The shit happening in Berkeley is... Scary. It's another step down the road that I hope we don't have to go down. If it comes to it though, free speech all the way.

Something that popped in to my head during a discussion earlier. Humour is a very powerful thing. It can lift us from the depths of despair and give us the courage to face another day. It reminds us that in the face of adversity we are still capable of finding a reason to smile, a reason to laugh, and the ability to find joy, in spite of our problems.   Mockery and satire are our weapons against tyranny. Those who will not be mocked are those who will never learn or grow. They will not be mocked because they fear others seeing their flaws and weaknesses. They will not be mocked because they have no rebuttals worthy of presenting. They will not be mocked because they cannot be mocked - they rely on fear to remain powerful. We must laugh at those who wish to oppress us. We must also laugh at ourselves when we are worthy of it. No subject is above humour. If we can laugh at horrible things, we can face horrible things. We are often struck by fits of laughter at the most shocking subjects because laughter helps us cope with our discomfort about those subjects. If we lose that, we lose our courage to cope. Never let them get your sense of humour.
