This is the first basic sequence in the manual therapeutic modality of connective tissue therapy. All treatments start this way regardless if the focus of treatment itself is on the upper or lower limbs. Starting treatments on the sacrum indirectly affects the parasympathetic nervous system ('"rest/digest" phase) to promote the body's own natural healing response. It is a gradual and segmental pulling of the bodies' connective tissue, which lies deep to the skin, holding all muscles, bones, organs and tendons together in a sort of body stocking. Therefore affecting changes in one part of the body has reflex effects on organs and even opposite sides of the body in subtle yet effective ways. In the west the term "Fascia" or fascial therapy is used and the modalities are similar though I find connective tissue therapy to be more directed for certain specific ailments like frozen shoulder. I enjoy this structured approach of German origins because of how it visually ties in the skins innervated dermatomes, as well as the muscles and joints, bridging the gap between the physical and the metaphysical idea of energy meridians from the east. Coincidentally energy meridians and dermatomes run in almost identical lines. I have seen this therapy bring people to tears from emotional and psychic release. I have also seen first hand this therapy give weeks more life to the terminally ill. The body's natural healing response is always going to be least shocking and most effective when it comes to creating new and maintaining healthy neural pathways.
