Ukrainian aviation engineer, Vladimir Tatarenko, devised a way to allow the entire population of a failing aircraft to eject to safety if necessary.

The pod, which is currently being devised for civil aircraft only, would be able to detach in case of emergency. Tatarenko says that 75% of all in-flight accidents are due to human error and a 15% increase in ticket sales (due to increased fuel consumption because of the weight of the parachute system) is a small price to pay to save your life.

It is built to deploy inflatable rafts underneath when touching down which allows for land or water landing. The device is also able to activate within 2-3 seconds of a drastic emergency.

Hopefully, if this technology catching on in commercial aircraft, there will be a 3 or 4 tier failsafe that has to be activated to jettison the people and their luggage. And hopefully the pilots can join them!
