I was confused at first why would Dmitry Medvedev make a comment like this, as this would be a potential nuisance for Russia in the Arctic. Then I realized, the EU would never allow Greenland to fall into American hands without a fight, or at least a major falling out politically. If the Russians encourage the Americans in this regard, it will drive an even bigger wedge between the Americans and the EU.
