A bluespotted ribbontail stingray (Taeniura lymma) slits the throat of a heron trying to prey on it. Except for bleeding, the bird is unlikely to survive, because that tail sting contains a poison that is sometimes deadly to predators. This venom causes vasoconstriction and ischemia where it is injected; therefore, deep wounds are also harder to heal (and can result in death).
