According to Wikipedia, MUSIC is defined as “the art of arranging sounds in time through the elements of melody, harmony, rhythm, and timbre.” From our elementary days, we recall being taught that “music is the combination of sounds that is pleasant to the ear.” Taking a close look at the definition of music from both Wikipedia's definition and that of our elementary school as we have recalled, it's obvious to notice the recurring word which is “sound.” Sound is a very important element in music. Without sound, music will probably not be made. What we define as music might defer; being that what is pleasant to one person might not necessarily seem pleasant to another. However, one common theme our taste in music share is SOUND. Sound in music comes in with music production; creating beats, making relatable melodies and rhythms, mixing and mastering of songs. Some people have good ears for sounds and infact it is safe to say that these set of people know how to pick the perfect sound for the perfect song. A producer/sound engineer is the one in charge of creating beats and finding the perfect melody for recordings. The bulk of the work of a producer remains on the beat and the producer needs little to no vocal prowess to be successful at his job. Being a producer provides anyone the opportunity to be a celebrity with lots of following, wealth and even awards. If you fancy being on the front page of magazines and trending on social media but have no vocal talent, you might want to consider being a producer. If you are good with making beats that ends up as blockbuster songs, then you sure will soon be chilling with the likes of DJ Khaled and Dr Dre. Most producers/sound engineers are good with playing instruments. It could be any instrument and they are either professional at playing a particular one or have brilliant knowledge of playing multiple instruments. Being a producer has it own struggle too as one with no instrument-playing skills might need to learn through the ropes (we actually know nothing good comes easy right?). A producer either makes his own original beat(sound), collaborates with other producers or makes the type of beat an artiste wants. Whichever way, once a producer is known to have produced a couple of songs with multiple streams and awards, he sure would get the “muller.” The music industry also does well with representation of producers I terms of awards and special recognitions. The job of creating perfect sounds is a very lucrative one in the industry, plus it is one of the very many that does not require a single vocal ability to be successful at.
