The Monastery of Kipina

Carved neatly into the side of a mountain in the village of Kalarrites in Tzoumerka, Greece, you will find the impressive Kipina Monastery. Built in 1212 in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, its namesake derives from the name of the gardens below cultivated by the monks. During the Turkish occupation, the monks bridged the gap of the ravine with a trick, wooden bridge. When the heathens attacked the monastery, the monks dragged the bridge inside and were safe. .......................................................................................... #history #culture #nature #photogaraphy #education
