To start the conversation, I first like to look at it this way... Mankind has currently evolved into what I call a "Mindkind" (what many call the ego-mind). And until we evolve to the next level of cooperative existence, we will absolutely carry with us, to another New World, all of the un-necessary suffering we impose upon ourselves. America is a great example. Why would, why did, anyone cross an ocean, with a very large chance of not even surviving the trip, let alone being able to successfully live off the land when they arrived? Why take the risk? Motivations abound right. Let us put that aside for a moment. What does America look like now just about 250 years later? Is the attempt to cooperate successfully in a new land still working? What can we do better? What would the next iteration of that freedom experiment look like? Surely there are lessons to be learned. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Jefferson, drawing on the philosophy of John Locke, asserts our “rights” DON’T come from government but the “Creator," however you wish to define that. In practice, as we all know, this is not how it works. We perceive our rights as something that can be granted or revoked by an earthly "authority," commonly referred to as “government.” Sometimes in the form of a “license” or a “permit.” They have and increasingly it seems, wish to claim authority or sovereignty over our bodies and minds. Ostensibly, through representative democracy, they then dictate to what actions we can take, what substances we can ingest, what property we can own, and what commodities we can trade, all through violence and coercion. We don't tolerate this from the individual, why do we tolerate it from our elected rulers? Why do we allow government to take the same actions we know to be immoral? How can “we the people” grant a right we don’t have to government? Can't all the services the state currently provides be achieved morally, through voluntary and consensual means? How is it that we haven't truly recognized this reality; if we did we wouldn’t have elections at all or "governments." Electing rulers is contrary to the true meaning of freedom, individual sovereignty, and self ownership. No person can or should make decisions for hundreds of millions of people. No group of humans should be delegating rights they don’t have as an individual to the collective we call government. Let us consider a Voluntary Society based upon basic morality... All interactions would be voluntary and based upon consent. There would be no exceptions for those who call themselves government. A belief in self-ownership and the non-aggression principle (NAP) would apply. Violence and coercion would never be tolerated among the population. We would no longer create or tolerate government that takes actions we know to be immoral. What is moral or morality?
