I read an article on monkeys having more “cognitive flexibility” than humans. In a study they reevaluated their way of doing a task to take advantage of a new shortcut. Humans on the other hand tended to stick to the first way they learned, even though it was less efficient. The researchers thought it was because the monkeys had less working memory and were pressured to come up with a simpler solution if they could. I was reminded of the book review about how social learning and cultural transmission made humans unique.
