KGB and CIA were certainly capable of precise and meticulous planning, their ruthlessness didn't surprise me. But considering the haphazarded manner in which their thoughts were formed, registered, indexed and recalled, any single rational act from their part became a a miracle. Perhaps they were incapable of rationality. Perhaps all thought was a set of impulses generated by one emotion, monitored by another, ratified by a third.
