Arachne was the most talented weaver of ancient Greek. She was so proud of her skills that she challenged the goddess Athena into a weaving contest. She created a perfect tapestry, even better than the one that Athena did. The goddess went mad because a simple mortal defeated her, and hit the poor girl. Arachne was so ashamed of this situation, that she hanged herself with a rope and tried to commit suicide. When Athena saw this, she turned Arachne into a spider to save her life.
