Being smart doesn't stop one from doing stupid shit the same way that being stupid doesn't stop one from doing something smart on occasion.
Ideally, you'll try to make your actions tilt more towards the smart than towards the stupid end of the spectrum.
Those who subbed to me more recently may have missed that I'm first and foremost a software developer. My curiosity led me to buy a PinePhone a few months back to play with. After trying out a few OSes, I stuck with KDE Plasma which shipped with my model. I was curious as to whether I would be able to write an app without using classic KDE tools. Even better, I wanted to figure if I could write an app using C# and .NET Core which I did. This is the blog post where I shared the experience.
