What's Holding You Back?
This is one question I've been asking myself lately. When we were younger, we were told that we can become whatever it is we want to be. We were told that there are no limitations to success. We can do it if we put our mind to it. Of course reality is a different ball game all together, but come to think of it. What happened to that mindset? Where did that determination go when we grew up? There may be some factors. This is an observation from my immediate environment. My reality might be different from yours but these things have a way of aligning. One of the factors is religion. No, this isn't an attack on religious people. I'm a believer myself. We can't deny though, that some religious beliefs hold people back from actually doing what they want to do. They avoid that thing which isn't a bad thing and which will also help them achieve their goals because their religion forbids it. How then do they grow, you wonder. Another thing is societal conditioning. You may not be aware but you live your life according to the rules of the society. If you are the type who doesn't pay attention, it will take a long time for you to realise and eventually accept the truth. It may seem normal to do what everyone else is doing but ask yourself, is it contributing to my growth or making me stagnant? The most important and also most denied one is fear. Yes, fear. Fear of the unknown. Fear of failing. Because we're so scared of pursuing this one thing and because we don't want to fail while at it, we settle. Sometimes unconsciously. Why go after it when we're comfortable where we are? The funny thing is that we believe we are where we should be till we eventually take that step. Tell me, what's holding you back? #writing #psychology #passion #life #fear
