Protesting a 1% pay rise during the pandemic

I appreciated the clapping, and I understand that 1% pay rise for one of the biggest employers in Europe is significant. I fear that this protest from the nurses is coming across as tone deaf, and the public will turn on us at some point. I could be wrong, but I don't think that the soldiers protested their wages in the middle of the war. Modern day soldiers are paid less on average than nurses in the UK. I'm massively against the spirit of this protest.
