The Glacier of Lakes: Vatnajokull
Covering more than 8% of Iceland, Vatnajokull, an ice cap glacier, is Europe’s largest glacier.
The ice has an average thickness of the ice is 1300 feet, with a maximum thickness of 3300 feet.
There are several volcanoes under Vatnajokull. The Grimsvotn volcano was the source of a large glacial lake outburst flood (a Jokulhlaup) in 1996.
