Well, here's a bit of good news for a change. The Oaks Park skating rink is due to reopen. It's true, I have my deep concerns about events at the Portland Convention Center. But am I worried for Oaks Park and the rink? Well, no I'm not, and here's the reasons why.
1. It's true they're not as far out from the downtown area as me. But Oaks Park and the rink are still a ways out from downtown Portland.
2. Getting to Oaks Park, either by car or bus, is a bit of a trip. That is unless, someone has a residency in the neighborhood of the park. In which case, that person is one lucky sod!
3. If you've ever been to Oaks Park, you'd know there's only one way in, and one way out. So getting to and from the amusement park is an experience, in and of itself.
Now granted, the rink will have a limit of 50 people for All Skate. But it's rare when a crowd, as large or larger than that, comes to the rink. Usually they'll be one or two, or at most ten per group. Also, Oaks Amusement Park has tentative plans to open up the rides for summer. From the bottom of my heart, I can say that would only be of benefit for this city. After everything that's happened the last two years, a little sunshine, joy, and fun is welcome.
