I just realized something. You know series like Sonic, Mario, TMNT, and a few others that are nearing 40-30 years old? These series are old and have so many incarnations but within that, they really don't tell the fandom which version they should like in order to be true fans. Contrast to how Star Wars is treating its fans at the moment and how they're trying so hard to erase the past and replace with a 'time appropriate' version that is not only costing money but does not have the attention grabbing powers as the original series. I've been looking at a LOT of TMNT stuff recently and I'm still finding out about story versions that I had no idea existed but they keep reprinting and it made me realize how fucking TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES not only respects its fans in terms of creating new content but also just remembering its roots and not being ashamed of it. TMNT keeps making things that respects the original Mirage line, the 87s line, the 2003 line and so on and it does all of this to satisfy the many fans it has no matter which version they're fans off. Hell, even when Rise was airing I noticed the TMNT Twitter page never tried to forget the 2010 and 87 series existed and would constantly have fun with the fact that so many version of the turtles existed. They never played this generational war that current Star Wars is doing by trying to separate fans from a thing they grew up with. And hell, as drama filled as the Sonic fandom is, it sort of does this too. It doesn't try to bury the Genesis era (possiblybecausthenostalgiafactorofitbringsinthemostmoney) or say that 'Oh, this is bad because it doesn't match up to TODAY'S standards so it must be erased' and so on. Yeah, SEGA has done some dumbfuck shit over the years but again, not as painfully aggravating as Star Wars. If anything, I think this shows that a massive generation of fans can get along just so long as you DON'T PURPOSELY START SHIT with them. The best way to ensure that your series is going to last long, even through reboots, is to respect where you came from and respect the fans that brought it to glory in the first place. Insert Doomcock's saying here. Just look at the series that respect new and old fans vs the ones who don't and you can see which path is the best to take. And let me add, respecting the fans doesn't mean you have to stop yourself from trying new things either. Those new things can still surprise older fans and make them smile but again, just remember.... RESPECT.
