On December 1, 1901, a report was published in the New York Times that a dragon-like creature had been killed by a hunter in the lower Everglades. Locals who who inhabited the borders of Lake Okechobee began describing an immense serpent like creature that had killed 2 locals. A hunter named Buster Ferrel visited the location, successfully killing the creature on the third day. He described the creature as 20 to 30 feet long, with feelers around its mouth similar to catfish.
