Brainstorming. The answer may be to end the illusion that there are two parties. Completely abandon Republicans (they have proven useless), register as Democrats, and install conservatives through the primary system. Why? Because it will be confusing to their base if they don't have the evil Boogeyman to run against. Democrats will actually have to debate their own, and the base will actually have to figure out where the candidates stand on issues. No more dismissing the opponent simply by labeling them a Republican.
