Democracy

Why is it that so many people think democracy is some kind of ideal system? Is it just really good propaganda and indoctrination? Or do people really think it's the best system we should strive for? Even if we could guarantee completely transparent and corruption-free democracy, it is still forcing the majority's will over the minority. How is that ok? How is that better than a dictatorship?
