Miklós Horthy (Horthy Miklós), (born June 18, 1868, Kenderes, Hung., Austria-Hungary—died Feb. 9, 1957, Estoril, Port.), Hungarian naval officer and conservative leader who defeated revolutionary forces in Hungary after World War I and remained the country's head of state until 1944.
