I was on Twitter today, to see what's new. They added a function to prevent people from responding, if you are not following them. Or if they are not mentioned. Twitter is seen as the marketplace of ideas for the common person. Making a change like this to a worldwide hub of speech and public conversation, is offensive. Placing barriers for people to respond, while the technology is there, is offensive. The Twitter ecosystem was already too restrictive as is, a change like this was absolutely not needed.
