In Norse mythology, Gerd (Gerðr = fenced-in) is a jötunn (giant), goddess, and the wife of the god Freyr. Gerd was extremely beautiful. Gerd was the daughter of the giants Gymer and Aurbode. Freyr fell in love with her, but Gerd would not marry Freyr, but she was forced to do so, otherwise, she would be cursed.
