So I went to the store before they opened yesterday. A line of three or so dozen people with carts formed behind the dozen or so of us who got there first. An old man with a cane and a basket who could not stand in line slowly took a seat near the entrance. We waited another ten minutes or so until they opened the doors and the mad dash began with people jockeying for position at the opened doors. My turn to enter and I nodded to the old man to come up and go in front of me. People did not want to let him go but I forced them to wait. The old man looked at me gratefully as I held the crowd while he entered. Best feeling I had all day was that one look from that man and the realization that I could choose how I conducted myself and could possibly affect how others did the same. I spread a little empathy and it sure felt good. Try it. Offer a helping hand to someone today. You'll be glad you did.
