Sunset at Mono Lake in Mono County, California. The lake itself was formed at least 760,000 years ago as a terminal lake inside the areas natural endorheic basin. Due to the lack of outlets the lake has gained a reputation for extremely high salt levels, and helping to contribute to its beautiful geological features. Despite it's rather alkaline water it remains one of the most productive and thriving ecosystems in central California. An estimated 2 million birds call this lovely area home during their migrations each year as they stop over to feed on the shrimp and flies the lake provides in abundance. #art #photography #nature #california #outdoors
