The other night I made this post with a still image. However, I thought it was ssoooo cool that it deserved an animated image. Located in eastern Java, Indonesia lies the Ijen volcano. Ijen, a stratovolcano, has a 1-km wide, blue-green colored, acidic crater lake, and is known for its rich sulfur deposits. This is the worlds largest volcanic, acidic crater lake. Its water is so acidic that it can dissolve human flesh. Each night, the Ijen volcano crater is lit up with the awesome spectacle of blue flame. This blue fire, reaching up to 16 feet, is ignited sulfuric gas, which emerges from fissures at temperatures of up to 1100 degrees F. ................................................................................................................................................................. #science #nature #outdoors #photo #education
