It is common for a contemporary #Calvinist to attempt to convert John Calvin's hard deterministic #theology into soft determinism. #Compatibilism (also known as soft determinism), is the belief that God's predetermination and meticulous providence is "compatible" with voluntary choice. This philosophical speculation asserts that we do what we voluntarily choose to do, but those choices are determined by our nature. However, as #JohnCalvin notes below in his Institutes, it "was NOT owing to nature that they [descendants of Adam and Eve] all lost salvation by the fault of one parent." Calvin denies the free will of man and instead explains the Fall as a result of God's decree ["God decreed that Adam should perish by his revolt."], or as he calls it, by "the wonderful counsel of God". This merely is a restatement of the problem Calvinism poses for the holiness of God: If God is a thrice-holy deity, and if God has decreed all things including the Fall, how is man responsible for #sin that God Himself has decreed that man do?
