50 years ago today, the Apollo 12 command module carrying astronauts Pete Conrad, Dick Gordon and Alan Bean splashed down in the Pacific Ocean and was brought aboard the U.S. Navy's USS Hornet, bringing the mission to a successful conclusion. Also coming back from the Moon: lunar samples and pieces of our Surveyor 3 robotic spacecraft retrieved by the astronauts.
