Thanks to its massive feet, the Purple Swamphen (Porphyrio porphyrio) is able to walk along the top of the reed beds more than a metre above the water. No doubt there is a nest hidden down in there somewhere.

A rare visit today from an Eastern Rosella (Platycercus eximius) who loves eating unopened Dandelion buds.
I'm very lucky to see this species at all, let alone in the back yard.
