Throwing you back for Thursday, the MTX Psychic Friends Network Newsletter. So much of rock and roll (and, you know, everything) is taking a scattered, ephemeral, disjointed, and largely imaginary "reality" and creating the semblance of something greater alongside it out of mere logos and rhetoric. (Pun intended, I guess.) There's a kind of art to it that is separate from whatever the actual content may or may not be, if there is any. This is true no less of the so-called "established band" than it is of the teenager in the bedroom singing "Train Kept a Rollin'" into a coke bottle microphone in front of a mirror. And it was certainly true of the MTX of 1994, which was barely a band, barely an existent entity. For whatever reason, we (that is to say, Aaron and I) did what little we could to sustain the illusion, and that included sending out a newsletter to around a dozen people every few months. These things (the physical sheets of paper) are still kicking around. I typed them up on my Mac II SE and printed them out one by one as needed, which was infrequently. I think there were around four of these before I gave it up. Still plugging away at that illusion, though, naturally. #music #hype #tbt #mtxforever #minds
