I was exploring the many crevasses of the ledges about a week ago and came across this. The narrow passageway restricted me from any side view perspective. But looking at size and shape I think this could've been used as some sort of altar in the past. Nelson Kennedy Ledges was home to many tribes over time including the Shawnee, Delaware, Miami, Seneca, Mohawk and the Cajuga. I don't know what rituals each of the tribes practiced or if they were anything like the tribes in Mexico or South America. And maybe it's just my imagination running wild but its the perfect size for a sacrificial altar. It's complete with a platform and steps leading up to a cap stone just the right size for a average size person to lay flat. IDK pretty cool though 😂 #photography #outdoors #nature #travel #myphoto

Twisted and gnarled trees are by far the most interesting. #myphoto #photography #nature #outdoors #travel
