What day is it? Super Cub Saturday, of course! Here a friend joins me for a sunrise currency flight, before the mercury starts its rise to 112 degrees, from a fresh vantage over Phoenix and Maricopa in the 180hp tin shed that is the Cubby. After a warm-up landing we configure for a Vx departure. Once in ground effect flying about a foot above the runway for roughly 2300' to gain airspeed - so we can achieve a good, fast climb out - we takeoff at 2500 fpm; gaining 250' in 6 seconds before experiencing a brief weightlessness while rounding out into best rate to continue the climb. You tell me...does he look thrilled or what? Such fun!
