TEDx: Why Megan Phelps-Roper Left The Westboro Baptist Church [hd 720p] What's it like to grow up within a group of people who exult in demonizing ... everyone else? Megan Phelps-Roper shares details of life inside America's most controversial church and describes how conversations on Twitter were key to her decision to leave it. In this extraordinary talk, she shares her personal experience of extreme polarization, along with some sharp ways we can learn to successfully engage across ideological lines. She also teaches another important lesson here. That sometimes people are going to crap on you no matter what, and this is when you must stand your ground, and then walk away. The concept of peace isn't about everyone liking each other or agreeing with each other or getting along. Peace, simply means a lack of conflict. And if you have an irreconcilable difference with someone, peace can be achieved simply by not dealing with them. There is no need for pointless drama and hostility. You get to choose who you want to deal with and who you do not want to. So don't deal with people who insist upon hating you no matter how nice you try to be, because sometimes just leaving it well enough alone, is the best option. An option that prevents unnecessary drama, conflict and outrage. Be kind to those who are receptive, but for those whom are not -- don't try to control them. People only change if they want to change. You can inspire the willing, but can not change the unwilling by force.
