Anything cultural and political about Africa. It is high time to pay more attention to this gigantic continent, which is 3x larger than the US and contains immense resources. It is also the only continent which still experiences substantial demographic growth. Governance is catastrophically bad and corrupt, in most countries. Instead of gaining true independence, most African countries now are controlled by China. African countries really have to develop their civil societies and their understanding of classical liberalism to achieve greater individual liberty, which will be followed by greater prosperity.

“Giving children basketballs will make them taller!”

In the mid 2000s there was a movement to give every child in Africa a laptop. The laptops were supposed to transform African education and raise the standard of living. Corporations and individuals raised hundreds of millions, shipping several million laptops to Africa. The laptops often went unused, or became status symbols. Many broke down quickly and were unable to be repaired. Later analysis found the laptops had no discernible impact on intelligence or reading ability.
