This is my review of the 2017 iMac 27-inch Retina 5K. Here's my rationale for selecting it to replace my 2010 iMac.

The Retina Display is gorgeous - the best monitor I've laid eyes on. I have it set to 5120 x 2880 resolution, twice my old iMac in both dimensions.

It is so good that I'm noticing more "dust spots" in my photos (which include the sky). I'm glad in one way, but I'm not too thrilled with the extra work I have to do to get rid of the dust spots.

The Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse 2, and Magic Trackpad 2 come with built-in batteries which can be recharged using a lightning cable which is provided. It took me about 15 minutes to get used to the Magic Trackpad 2 which introduces  Force Touch. I was frustrated for a while because I was used to the "full" press to drag in the old Magic Trackpad. And I use the trackpad much more than the mouse.

I expected the new iMac to be much faster and I was not disappointed. My photo processing is so much faster. One downside I've noticed is that it is more difficult to multi-task. I did other things while waiting for my photo processing in the old iMac. Now, there is no waiting.

It is very quiet. Probably because I have a 2 TB SSD installed instead of the Fusion Drive which includes a regular (mechanical) disk drive. I haven't heard the built-in fans.

The built-in speakers are good enough for me that I am using them on a regular basis. I never used the built-in speakers in my old iMac.

I thought I would need an additional external dock for connections. I don't. There are more than enough ports in back of the iMac.

If Apple comes out with an updated Thunderbolt 5K Retina Display, I will buy it to connect to my new iMac.

I'm very happy with my purchase.
