My Philosophy and World View A couple years ago a light went on in my mind, and I developed this need to learn as much as I can about myself and the people in my life. One night just after this realization of sorts I was reading Angels and Demons when the thought occurred to me to research the actual science described in this book. I turned on my computer and googled LHC and immediately I'm shown articles on Wikipedia about theoretical physics, string theory, supersymmetry, etc. Almost 6 hours had passed before I realized the time, and during this span I fell head over heels into physics. A few months later I took anatomy & physiology and microbiology, and during these sections the same passion I developed for physics now included biology. Since these events took place my thirst for knowledge in these fields has yet to subside, and consequently I spend a tremendous amount of my free time doing independent study on various topics in these fields. I believe in everyone's ability to understand themselves and the world around them by taking some time to learn a little about how it works. I believe that anyone with a healthy mind always intends to make the best decisions possible using any information readily available. This analytical prerequisite for important actions and decisions would lead them to concern themselves with the well being of everyone around them. The obvious and inevitable positive results of this behavior would spread into pier groups, the community, and ultimately society as a whole. I believe there is solution to every problem in life, and using scientific methods along with empathy a sensible solution can and will be found. Empathy is paramount when solving relationship problems, and is fortunately a fundamental mechanism within everyone's consciousness. I have seen no evidence of a causal or supernatural agent within existence or the universe as a whole, and this technically makes me an agnostic. However, I am not willing to make definitive statements one way or the other I just follow the evidence. I don't believe in prophecy, signs, or grandiose plans, and I don't think there is purpose for the universe or any life found within. Purpose and meaning are things we have absolute control over, and we can all make our lives meaningful and purposeful without their needing to be something metaphysical about existence. My Ideology I am a progressive residing in the most religious/conservative part of the country. Neo-Con propaganda saturates every media outlet patronized by aware citizens, voters, and public officials. I am as passionate if not more so than most acquaintances. I feel I must reach out to others in this area who are ostracized by the community for holding liberal ideals. I believe religion flies in the face of understanding. In any society there are going to be haves and have nots. The strong have a moral obligation to protect the weak. Just because two or more people have a difference of opinion doesn't mean that one is right and the other is wrong. (those of faith take note)
