Daß der tätige mitten unter den schwächlichen und hoffnungslosen Müßiggängern, mitten unter den scheinbar tätigen, in Wahrheit nur aufgeregten und zappelnden Genossen nicht verzage und Ekel empfinde, blickt er hinter sich und unterbricht den Lauf zu seinem Ziele, um einmal aufzuatmen. Sein Ziel aber ist irgend ein Glück, vielleicht nicht sein eigenes, oft das eines Volkes oder das der Menschheit insgesamt; er flieht vor der Resignation zurück und gebraucht die Geschichte als Mittel gegen die Resignation.
