Reverend's Thoughts: Kanye West

I honestly believe Kanye has repented of his sins and trusted in Christ as his Savior and King. No doubt in my mind. My problem however stems not from his authenticity, zeal, or message, but his immediacy in launching this new campaign. He should be discipled first.

Anyone that has studied scripture knows the apostle Paul. Paul was a hater, hunter, and killer of Christians prior to his conversion. He was also a respected and practicing pharisee. After his conversion on the road to Damascus he spent three years in training before beginning his ministry. Even as an expert and teacher in the Old Testament laws and prophets, Paul was not ready to go on mission until he spent three years in spiritual preparation. This truth holds great meaning for men like Kanye that are zealous, but impatient and susceptible to spiritual destruction.

I do not mean to sound negative, but Kanye is a baby Christian - a new believer. Even if he was a scholar on biblical studies prior to his conversion, he should first be discipled and mentored until he is mature enough to proceed with this Christian crusade. Or he will end up endorsing charlatans like Joel Osteen (yeah he did that already).

I am really not bashing the guy. God can still use Kanye in great ways - as we have seen. I am more concerned about Kanye in the long run and I am simply stating that he is setting himself up to fall. He should be discipled/mentored as everyone should after accepting Christ as their Savior. Otherwise he is not going to grow and when trials and tribulations befall him, he may fall away. Then we will be reading about Kanye’s fall from grace plastered all over the news. I am simply concerned for his spiritual growth.

I am praying for Kanye and that he will concede to the instructions and discipleship of a mature Christian believer (Not Osteen). I am also asking you to pray for Kanye. I am certain he is # 1 on the devil’s hit list, so he needs our prayers and support.
