You may have tried everything, yet nothing worked.
You keep falling into the same patterns over and over again. This unwanted desire reappears, leading you into actions you desperately want to stop.
The solution is closer than you think.
However, it’s not about finding the perfect method but how you address the root of the issue.
Here’s a simple strategy to transform you from someone who struggles with lust into a victorious overcomer who is living above it.
Trying to fight a pornography addiction directly will not work. At best, you’ll remove some fruit, but the root will remain. That’s why you need to look into the past to understand what caused this tree to grow and bear fruit you don’t desire.
When you feel tempted to open pages or look up images, ask yourself: What am I truly desiring in this moment? What goal are you trying to achieve? If your goal is sexual pleasure, there’s something deeper underneath—likely hurt or insecurity.
When you identify the motive that causes the behavior, the issue of pornography won't have a strong hold on you anymore.
For many, pornography is an escape from the discomforts of life.
Facing your deepest fears will help you overcome the anxiety that drives you to porn. When you confront your fears, you’ll gain confidence. This strength will remove the need to escape by doing something you don’t want to do.
It's rare to hear such advice, but dreaming about your future and working on your purpose are powerful tools in helping you overcome lust.
We all have big desires and want to achieve great things. But big achievements come from small steps.
Take a piece of paper and write down where you want to be in five years. Set that goal as a post for yourself, and every day come up with something small to do that would move you a tiny bit closer to that goal. Don't feel like anything is too small.
It's better to make a hundred small steps consistently than three big ones and stop.
When you start working on the goal, it will lift your heart to see that you're seeking something greater. Temptations to fall for something cheap will look less appealing.
“Both experimental and clinical psychology have proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that the human nervous system cannot tell the difference between an actual experience and an imagined vividly and in detail.”
From Psycho-Cybernetics by Dr. Maxwell Maltz
Our minds are powerful.
If we win certain battles in our minds, we automatically win against the physical struggle. Instead of focusing on failure, daydream about how good it will be to live in freedom. The more detailed your dream is, the more desire you'll create to reach that place.
Sooner than you think, you will start taking steps and actions based on your dreams. If you want to overcome lust, think about how good it will be to live without this struggle. Imagine yourself living a day without it with as many details as you can.
Guilt brings hopelessness. Daydreaming brings hope, motivation, and a drive to run for freedom. You will see freedom sooner if you daydream about it, than if you embrace guilt.
