Reasons fable 3 didn’t do so well (I really liked the game, but I won’t deny its faults that does exist)
1) Dog is the most useless beast imaginable, he is a liability. He does nothing but bark and growl. Oh, he’ll find treasure for you, even if its right in front of you.
2) Oh, the dog will help fight by growling which does nothing and tear the enemy's throat once he’s down. But that is only once in a while. Give me dogmeat from fallout 4, he doesn’t mess around and is thousand times more useful!
3) You cannot bond with the dog. All you can do was play fetch, praise or shame. Which all of those had no purpose! The dog is useless as nipple on a breastplate!
4) Dialogue with npcs are really lousy, especially with Walter who always state the obvious. There’s just no connection with anyone.
5) You go, interact with a villager, all you get was rude expression, good expression or silly expression and they’re all random and they’re all ridiculous! Who does that in real life? Especially farting at the guard’s face? Shouldn’t you be arrested? Sure, you’re a prince or princess, but come on!
6) You got to reach a level of friendship with this npc, but they also want you to fetch something in order to increase a level of “friendship” to best friend or love interest. Give me a break!
7) Whoop dee do, you got married to a nobody and had a kid with said nobody, and the kid remains a kid and you don’t form any bond with them whatsoever.
8) Kids are not important to you, they just help you get through this magical face door that sobs at the sight of a kid. That’s it?
9) Oh the spouse and the kid will give you gifts, but that’s all! That’s all they’re good for! And even then, its Just useless crap you never cared for.
10) The combat system sucks! Your melee is weak and slow. You could barely get two strikes in while enemies shred you to pieces! Especially when you’re being ganged up on.
11) Oh, the magic is the only thing that is powerful, too powerful in fact, which takes on many of the enemies at once. The only thing that does!
12) The weapons are supposed to change depending on your actions, but instead it’s just certain quests you must do, even dumb ones. Oh, when upgrading the level in the road to rule, it changes shape anyway.
13) There’s only four weapons; a sword, a warhammer, a pistol and a shotgun. Fable 2 used to have multiple of choices, what gives?
14) Navigation is weak in this game. Most of the time, you really don’t follow the stupid sparkling trail ahead of you especially when you don’t see it most of the time.
15) Co-oping is really bad, especially when trying to interact with them, which is no different than with npcs. Seriously? This is a player too, why are we so distant from each other that you couldn’t make it more interactive? I mean I see games that do better job at this!
16) You rarely get anyone to fight alongside you, unless it was a main quest. Even then, they’re ineffective and you do all the work! Oh, and when you have to get Walter out of danger, he slows you down to a walk. A walk!? You’re being chased by an evil entity, don’t you think that maybe it’s a good idea to flee?!
17) And what’s with the hand holding? Who does this? What, you can’t just ask them to follow you like Skyrim does?
18) You got your rebellion going, your army is massing against your brother’s army and you get to the climax of the battle and then… your brother just throws in the towel and says, “Here, you can be king now, I’m done.” What? Didn’t you just say you would see it burn before you surrender it and then just throw in the towel this easily? Were you even trying, lionsgate? Who does this?
19) Theresa is a total liar and a deceiver! She’s as bad as in fable 2, which she used you and then when she got what she wanted, she tells you to be gone. Now she is back here and lies to you in the face and still lies, pretending that she never lied. She is the worst guide ever!
20) Reaver, why is reaver back? What good does it do for the game? All he does is provide bad choices for you as ruler of Albion!
21) After you became ruler, finally, you do not do anything to punish Reaver. Reaver, who is responsible for the suffering of the people! You saw him shoot someone who dared to stand against him, not once but several times! Oh, I guess we’ll just forget that ever happened. Yeah, he’s just a stupid peasant who should have minded his own business instead of rousing a riot.
22) What the hell is with the choices for the ruler? None of them are even challenging! One side is too emotional and the other side is just too evil. Seriously, if I were designing this game, the choices would be more effective to the outcome of the game! Say you gotta repair the old quarter, you try repairing it but then your resources dwindle. But choose not to, you can conscript the homeless people to fight for your cause and make shelters for their families. It’s should not be a matter of good or bad, but what is more reasonable and important to you and the process of the game!
23) You need money to build your army, which is easy because you already bought every property and business there is in all of Albion and money flows in every five minutes. You got no challenges there!
24) Following up, you don’t see any process on how you’re building your army and defenses against the upcoming darkness! All it does is ensure no one dies. Except Walter. Here’s an idea Lionsgate, if you are going to have us build an army to defend Albion, let us actually spend the treasury to seriously build it! Also, don’t let us earn all those money so easily! You got to make it more challenging!
25) All that money you made…. All for nothing… and why is that? Because there’s nothing to buy. You already bought everything you ever wanted! You don’t need health potions, you don’t need anything. You don’t even need to upgrade a thing! All for nothing. Money is obsolete in this game.
26) All the guild seals keep coming, despite having opened every chest in the road to rule. So what is the point, Lionsgate? Have you thought about that? Oh, of course not.
27) DLC is not too bad of an idea, but some things should have been in the game itself like the dyes and other stuff. Especially black dyes, why? You just wanted more money!
28) If you want us to care about the secondary characters, you need to let us interact with them more and not just in cutscenes. Besides, we never see them outside of cut scenes except Walter and Jasper.
29) Sad thing is, as ruler, you just go about like you were before you became ruler, what gives? Isn’t that risky? Sure the kings go as they please, but not without some protection. The last thing you need is a kingdom where no one guards the king and the king ends up dead in the alleyway somewhere in Bowerstone. Don’t give me that crap about him or her being the “Hero” because even heroes can be defeated and killed. Otherwise there wouldn’t be any shortages of heroes.
30) There are very few hairstyle and clothes. Seriously, most look unappealing.
31) The clothes are nice to wear, but that is all they are. Can’t there be some perks to wearing these clothes? And what about armor? It makes no sense that you can go out in your underwear and still beat enemies unscathed.
32) You get dlc that changes your dog's breed. Because, why not? Everybody loves dogs, right? Can’t create different creatures like a big cat or something like that.
33) You are forced to make promises to people as you’re trying to build an army. And not only that, you were given the options To go back on your promises once you become ruler. Ok, why the hell would I want to do that? Even when Teresa said it would be easier to go back on their promises, I want to scream at her, “no, because there wasn’t any challenging reasons to do that.”
34) Dig spots, treasures, and spots in the water are just useless trinkets you sell for gold. But why do that, you already have properties and businesses that give you money.
35) Apparently people of lionsgate are against eating meat, they clearly think on a more emotional level rather than logical and even philosophical. No, we gotta rescue idiots, save defenseless animals, run errands for people we don’t give a damn about.
What I would have changed in fable 3
1) Everything would be taken out of the fable 3.
2) The storyline would go like this; the hero who is a prince is sent on a ship to Aurora to establish a trade with them. They find trouble along the way with the powerful force known as the darkness.
3) There is no Teresa anymore, but instead a new guide is established who guides your hero and is more useful and not a dishonest seer like Teresa.
4) You would have a comrade and a companion with you, not dogs this time. (To be fair, it should be optional when it comes to animal companions)
5) I would introduce forge and alchemy, so you can build weapons and armor and craft potions.
6) There would be multitude of weapons to choose from, more so than fable 2 had.
7) I would drop the whole moral compass out of the picture, but instead introduce dilemmas that would challenge the player and change the events based on the choices.
8) The way to make money is by working in jobs, no more buying all the houses and businesses there is. That is ridiculous.
9) The dialogues would be more realistic and won’t have characters stating the obvious.
10) There would be character development from all characters and even more characters than before.
11) Villagers and other npcs would actually be more fleshed out and had their own identity instead of copy paste of worthless npc that no one could possibly care about.
12) You don’t get married and have kids, considering that you never had the time to care or create any bond with them during the game.
13) The only home you have is the castle you grew up in, so you won’t be buying houses and renting them out. You use taverns and inns to recover and sleep.
14) Treasures would actually have something useful.
15) No dig spots or dive spots. Especially since no one really buries things everywhere.
16) The characters you would meet are a wide variety; your comrade, your older brother, ninja, warrior, gunslinger, Aurora leader, and more.
17) You would actually fight various of ways in the game and you fight faster and better, especially as you progress.
18) Magic won’t be overpowered or flashy but instead varies for different effects; fire, water, wind, earth, telekinesis, heal, and more.
19) Enemies won’t gang up on you or be too powerfully fast. They won’t even be annoyingly dodging every attack you make.
20) The game is longer and is about fighting to keep the darkness from crossing the Aurora sea into albion.
21) You later Return to Albion in the middle of the game to take over as Ruler because your brother has been killed.
22) The choices as a ruler would be more of dilemma choices that provides good and bad aspects to both sides, providing challenges to you.
23) As Ruler, you build your army up to combat the darkness, depending on the resources you gained, on the allies you make, and on the comrades you’ve made.
24) You can choose who to ally with as all leaders in Albion have their own reasons to fight and you can convince them to fight.
