Does anyone else remember when being part of a fandom meant something beyond regulating whom could do what?
Do you remember when it was all about laughing and enjoying nerdy shit? Politics, identities, all of that be damned? We just want to enjoy our stuff and at the end of the day drink some Mountain Dew and talk about other stuffs in the same vein?
Do you remember when we didn't just include people because we felt we had to, but because other people were curious about our stupid shit and wanted to know more about it?
Do you remember when we weren't suddenly bending over backwards to change our language, to change our behaviors, to change the medium itself, because somebody might be offended?
We used to be an open community. We used to be all about welcoming everyone. It was understood that nobody cared about politics, or religion, or sports teams, or problematic behaviors. We all were just about the medium. Gatekeeping was seen as bad, because that's an elitist attitude. We needed to just understand that people had opinions. Not everyone enjoys everything under the sun, but a common ground can be found.
Those days are LONG over. And it's time we started disowning the proselytizing motherfuckers who want to change everything about our hobbies.
Kick out the anti-shippers.
Kick out the people who want to analyze everything under the lens of critical race theory or colonialism.
Kick out the puritans who whine and cry about sexualization and female designs.
Kick out the race purists who scream whenever a character's skin color varies in the slightest.
Kick out the mental children who cry about the rights of fictional characters and preach that sexualizing them is akin to lusting after underage girls.
This is our fandom. This is our space.
These people are no longer welcome.
